Alkali Alkali

Whereas an acid is a proton donor, a base is a proton acceptor. Many of you are familiar with the process of saponification (literally soap formation), in which a saponifiable lipid or fatty acid (such as a vegetable oil) is reacted with Sodium Hydroxide (a base) to create what was once known as “Lye Soap”. Our selection of bases can be used to create liquid or bar soap, to neutralize acrylic polymers, or to raise the pH of formulations where needed.
