Clary Sage essential oil is steam distilled from wild crafted flowers of the Salvia sclarea plant. This oil has a long history of use for PMS symtoms, where it's known to ease discomfort. It's important to know your source for this oil it varies significantly, being higher in phenolic compounds vs. esters, depending on the processing and part of the plant used. Our Clary Sage is the gentle ester type.
The fragrance of Clary Sage, from the flowers, is fresh and herbaceous, with definite grassy notes that dry down into amber notes, due to high sclareol compounds.
Therapeutic Use: Clary Sage is best known for it's supportive activity to female hormonal conditions, especially in easing the discomfort of PMS, and menopause, when used appropriately, even aiding in the depression, and anxiety, that sometimes accompany these conditions. The perfect addition to women's balancing blends. In skin care, Clary Sage can add a rejuvenating effect, helping to restore lost skin tone, due to it's phyto estrogens.
Fragrance Impact: The pleasant, herbaceous, notes of Clary Sage are deep, slightly sweet and hay like, with a very slight powdery dry down. A great addition to blends that need some anchoring, or base notes. Use sparingly as it is very easy to dominate with this oil. This is one of those oils that you would use at trace, for fragrancing purposes, where it will add a lovely sweet hay note and a subtle aphrodisiac activity.
