Orange Sweet Oil
, is cold pressed from the peel of the fruit and is tested to verify that it is non-sprayed. The difference in fragrance, from the distilled oil, is significant. Pressed orange oil is sweet and sightly tart. When comparing the three orange oils it's easiest to think of the sweet orange as being sweet and tart, with the blood variety being much sweeter and the blood distilled as being even sweeter with almost no tartness.
Orange Sweet oil, like all pressed oils, is prone to oxidation which will then result in skin irritation, the orange oils are the most irritating of the citrus oils and should not be used straight in the bath. Orange Sweet oil is also photo sensitizing, like the other pressed oils, and should be used with care in body care. For skin care products it is best to choose the steam distilled orange oil as it does not contain the chemical responsible for photosensitization and is much safer.
Orange Sweet oil, like the other pressed oils, is a great choice for oily and congested skin conditions where it will assist in drying the excess oil without over drying and causing the skin to create more oil in an attempt to re-balance the skin. It will also have an astringent effect on the skin making it suitable for hair care applications.
Orange Sweet pressed oil is a great choice for cleansing products as everyone finds this oil pleasant. Blends nicely with all other citrus oils, most of the wood oils and it will lend a nice lift to florals. When blending with this oil it is best to keep it at under 2% of the total blend for bath and body care. This is fantastic combined with Vanilla CO2 and is one of the most popular scrub fragrances.
As with all citrus oils, it is recommended that you combine with equal levels of the monoterpene alcohols oils to 'quench' the oxidative compounds and lessen the irriatation potential, or make sure that the product that you are adding it to contains sufficient anti-oxidants to prevent the oxidation.
