CleanLocks, stearamidopropyl dimethylamine, is a fatty amine salt often used to remove build up on the hair, eliminating the matted feel and allowing it's brilliance to come through.

CleanLocks, when used as a hair care ingredient, offers conditioning and anti-static activity in shampoos and conditioners. CleanLocks does not build up on the hair and can even prevent, and remove, the build up typical of ammonium, proteins, cations, and other compounds. CleanLocks is a good choice for two in one shampoos where it offers conditioning and, excellent, thickening properties. CleanLocks is a great choice for low, or no, foam cleansing conditioners where you want some traditional cleansing but no harsh cleansers. CleanLocks offers good cleansing activity at lower concentrations and is considered a mild alternative to harsher cleansers, where it also delivers a luminescent, pearl-like effect for esthetically pleasing products.

CleanLocks is typically neutralized in situ with an organic acid such as citric, or lactic, to form a cation salt. It can also be formulated as the neutralized salt. CleanLocks is fully compatible with anionic surfactants and does not depress foam.

    • citric acid - 5.88 to 1 ratio of CleanLocks to Acid
    • the cationic attraction to hair can be manipulated by adjusting the pH, the lower the pH the higher the cationic charge and attraction to hair
  • when used as a co-emulsifier in skin care emulsions CleanLocks should be added to the oil phase with the pH of the water phase being at between 5.5 to 6.5, when the two phases are combined, then add additional acids after emulsion forms, without affecting stability.
